Every April for a while now, I have attended SCBWI's Illustrators' Day organized by Frieda Gates. The first guest speakers this year were three children's artists who talked about how participating in the conference marked the beginning of their careers in picture books. I experienced my own professional serendipity at this year's conference. I'm glad I showed my art portfolio and attended the post-conference mixer. I met some great people, and ultimately, these events led me to an agent. I am now represented by WendyLynn & Co in the children's publishing market. Yay!
