CAM Family Days

I used to teach elementary school in NC and have missed being in the classroom. Happily, I have been working with Chelsea Art Museum for the past year or so as an Artist-Teacher in their CAM Family Days program.

Each CAM Family Day features an interactive tour of the current exhibit and a fun arts workshop. Highlights from 2010 workshops are below.

January 30, 2010.
Chelsea Art Museum is home of the Miotte Foundation, and this special CAM Family Days workshop centered on Jean Miotte's paintings created in the past thirty years. During an exploration of Miotte's large colorful canvases, we discussed how the artist's emotions and passion for dance were expressed through his color choices and gestural brush strokes. We even acted out the roles of various colors and "painted" an imaginary canvas by group dancing and waving paintbrushes to the beat of some inspiring music. Families then were given white canvases, a variety of brushes, and paints to create beautiful paintings of their own. The resultant paintings were as unique as our participants, with emotional lines and colors.

Jean Miotte, Confession cannibale ou le festin interdite. 1992. Acrylic on canvas.
